Supporting Feeding Without Judgment: Breastfeeding, Bottle Feeding, and Everything In Between
Feeding a newborn is often one of the most emotionally loaded aspects of early parenthood. Parents receive advice from many directions, and expectations can feel heavy—especially when fatigue is high.
Postpartum doula care is rooted in respect and non-judgment. There is no single “right” way to feed a baby—only what works best for that family.
As a night-time postpartum doula, I support feeding by:
- Helping parents recognize early hunger cues during nighttime hours
- Supporting breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or combination feeding
- Assisting with paced bottle feeding and burping
- Offering reassurance when feeding feels confusing or stressful
Overnight feeds can feel especially overwhelming. Having calm, knowledgeable support during these moments helps parents feel less alone and more confident in their choices.

When needed, I also encourage collaboration with lactation consultants or medical providers, ensuring families receive comprehensive, respectful care.
